Yarn bombing #1 / Tricoffiti #1

For those who are not yet aware of it, there has been a revolution in the knitting world a few years back. It's called yarn bombing and it appeared in 2005. The concept is simple: you mix knitting with street art and a good dose of humour and you get some wicked yarn bombing!!!

Pour ceux qui ne sont pas encore au courant, il y a eu une révolution dans le monde du tricot il y a quelques années. Ça s'appelle le yarn bombing, ou en français le tricot de rue. Moi j'ai décidé d'appeler ça le tricoffiti, parce que je trouve ça plus joli. Le concept est simple : on mélange le tricot, le graffiti et une bonne dose d'humour et on obtient des tricoffitis d'enfer !!!

And now for my project.
I've been willing to try my hand at yarn bombing ever since I've discovered it! But never found the time to actually do it. The other day, I told all about it to my friend Ina who's a painter and she loved it. A week later, she asked me if I would yarn bomb the place where she and her musician of a boyfriend have their studios. It is a former primary school and it has a lovely playground with big ass plane trees, benches, and an iron rail: perfect!
They want to organise teatime concerts there in June and want the place to look a little less forlorn.

J'ai eu envie d'essayer le tricoffiti dès que j'ai découvert son existence ! Mais je n'en ai jamais eu le temps. L'autre jour, j'en ai parlé à ma copine Ina qui est artiste peintre, et elle a adoré. Une semaine après, elle m'a demandé si ça me dirait de faire du tricoffiti à l'endroit où elle et son copain qui est musicien ont leurs studios. C'est une ancienne école primaire qui a une jolie petite cour de récréation avec d'énooormes platanes, des bancs et une grille en fer forgé : tout simplement parfait !
Ils ont prévu d'y organiser des thé dansants ou cafés concerts à partir de juin et aimeraient que l'endroit soit un peu plus gai.

I've started crochetting a giant granny square for one of the trees. I put a pen beside it so you can figure out its actual size.
J'ai commencé à crocheter un carré granny géant pour un des arbres. J'ai mis un stylo à côté pour que vous puissiez avoir une idée de sa taille.
