Toulouse craft fair / salon Tendances créatives de Toulouse

Today was just like one day in heaven… or what heaven looks like to me anyway: I learned a new craft (felting), I shopped in the biggest craft shop I've ever seen (actually dozens of different little shop specializing in different things, please check out Odile Bailloeul, fabric designer) and met someone amazingly talented and super-nice (Sylvie Ladame, textile artist and felting instructor), all that with my friend Elke from Wool, Me & More! Je viens de passer la journée au paradis… enfin dans ce qui pour moi ressemble au... [Lire la suite]

Knit tunic / Tunique en jersey

Right after the huge success of the knit leggings, I decided to try my hands on a tunic to go with them. It turned out great but I really can't let my daughter wear the two together: it looks too muche like she's got her jim jams on! Today she's wearing the tunic with grey leggings and it's a much better look! The pattern of the tunic comes from this japanese book, it was a dress but I didn't have enough fabric left after the leggings so I had to shorten it. I really like how it turned out, it's got a lot of flare.   Après le... [Lire la suite]

First time with knits / J'ai cousu du jersey !

One of the challenges that were awaiting me this September was to learn how to sew knits. They're so comfy and trendy that I could not just ignore them anymore! In the last months I have bought really nice knits to sew things for me and my daughter, but first, I decided to use some cheap-ish fabric because I didn't want to make a mess on the more expensive ones. I was really scared about sewing knits, because all kinds of urban legends are spread in the sewing blog community: they say it's slippery, that you can end up with a sleeve... [Lire la suite]

Too cool for school! / Le kit de rentrée

This weekend has seen a very productive me! I've been sewing my ass off (pardon my French) to be ready for school, which begins tomorrow. So here goes: a quilt, a pillow and 2 napkins for lovely little Rafalou and her big day! The chevron quilt is made... [Lire la suite]

Back to school! / C'est la rentrée !

I haven't posted in a while, but the summer hasn't been very productive for me sewing-wise. I've had A LOT of work and the weeks of real holidays I had were spent somewhere I couldn't wouldn't do anything but read and relax, go to the beach and chat with the people I love. Now for the oject of this post… Well it's not so much "back to school" as it is really my lovely daughter's first year in school (preschool actually) that's going to start next Tuesday! I couldn't resist the urge to make her her first schoolbag, and immediately... [Lire la suite]

Raph's playhouse / La petite maison de Raph

For our daughter's 3rd birthday, my husband and I decided we wanted to get her a playhouse. But my husband hates plastic playhouses and the wooden ones that come in kits are very expensive, and more often than not, they're made with low quality wood and you have to spend even more money to buy the paint. So we decided to DIY it. And we have many people to thank for it too: my father in law, my sister, my brother in law and even my nephew helped building it!!!We recycled a lot of materials, like the wood panelling that used to be on the... 4 new pages! / 4 pages de plus !

I couldn't find time to take pictures before, but I managed to sew a few more pages for Raphaelle's quiet book. The first one is the "tie your laces" page for which I found the pattern on a blog called Pops and Podge. Then there is the "laundry page". The left page I got on Stephanie's blog, Imagine our life and the right page was inspired by one I found on The quiet book blog, but I don't know where! Finally, I made up the "zip your coat page". This was really my scary page as it was only the second time I was sewing a zipper, and... [Lire la suite]

Satchel & letters / Cartable et lettres

Here's a page I'm really proud of because I invented it! On the left, there's a satchel (for which you have the tutorial and templates here) that contains letters that spell out my little girl's name, mum and dad (well… in French of course!). Each word has its own color so that it is a bit easier and each letter has a "scratchy" velcro bit at the back. The right page has 3 strips of "soft" velcro to stick the letters on. I like everything about this page: it turned out exactly as planned, and the colors are really "happy"! And my... [Lire la suite]

quiet book: weaving / livre en tissu : tissage

This page is really easy to make. I just cut 1 inch strips of felt and sewed them on the top and on the left side of the page. There may be a lot of strips for her young age (she's 3) but she'll manage it later. And maybe, just maybe, as she will have trouble doing it, she'll be quiet for a longer moment? One can only hope…

Here's a page I copied from the blog Serving Pink Lemonade, who nicely provides free templates. I only altered the flower pot (in which you can put the petals!) and embroidered the numbers instead of cutting them in felt (that was easier for me).I traced the outline of the petals with a fabric permanent marker (if I had had time I would have prefered embroidering it for a better look).I used sticky velcro at the back of the petals. As it is, the petals stay in place on the felt fower with only the "scratchy" velcro part at the back,... [Lire la suite]
