The story of a dress 1/2/L'histoire d'une robe 1/2

My friend Marie (her again!) fell in love with a Claire McCardell vintage dress she had seen on the Internet. But the dress wasn't available anymore and she asked me if I would make it for her. And so the story begins…Claire McCardell was an American fashion designer who made ready-to-wear clothes for women between the 1930s and 1950s. She was famous for her easy to wear comfortable pieces. Well it's not exactly the case of Marie's dress, which is nonetheless perfectly gorgeous!  Ma copine Marie (encore elle !) est tombée... [Lire la suite]

Manège culottes/Jupe-culotte Manège

Quite a while ago, my friend Mary had fallen in love with and bought a fabric for me to sew her a pair of shorts she would wear on the beach. It took me a while to get around to sewing it because I just couldn't find the right pattern. I wanted something easy to wear, not tight, but not a simple pattern like you find for pajama shorts and I finally came across Aime comme Marie's Manège pattern (plus, the designer's name is reallyappropriate!).  It's a 3 in 1 pattern: you get 2 different styles of shorts (high and... Annabelle's foldover clutch / Le sac d'Annabelle

A couple of weeks ago, I flew to England to visit a very good friend of mine from Uni (from looong ago!). I know she loves bags and everything shiny, so I tried to incorporate both in a handmade present.I used a free tutorial by Frénésie et moi, a bird quilting fabric and a shiny golden faux-leather.I'm glad because I'm getting better at bag-making, and also, my friend liked it, which is all that matters! Il y a 2 semaines, je suis allée en Angleterre pour voir une très bonne amie de fac (ça remonte !). Je sais qu'elle adore les sacs... [Lire la suite]

Knitting on the go bag/Sac tricot nomade

Because they are so fashionable (in the knitting world, Rihanna doesn't have one as far as I know) I wanted to make for my NSP (non secret pal) a project bag you can use to knit while standing. I couldn't find a pattern so I invented one. It can be improved, but it's not bad for a first!

In February it was my NSP's (Non Secret Pal) birthday, so I wanted to make her parcel extra special. Since she is a knitter, I reckoned she, like the rest of us, could use a nice place to put her baby needles to rest. And let's be honest, interchangeable needles kits rarely come in nice pouches. No, I'm NOT thinking about my Knit Pro plastic case whose zipper broke the 1st time I used it… sigh En février, c'était l'anniversaire de ma NSP (Non Secret Pal), je voulais donc lui faire un colis un peu spécial. Comme c'est une tricoteuse,... [Lire la suite]

My 1st handbag / Mon 1er sac

Hello my lovelies! First of all, Happy New Year! I hope it's a great one for you and the ones you love! It's been a long time! The thing is, I've finished a lot of projects but couldn't show them because they were presents and I didn't want to ruin the surprise! My sister was born at the end of December, so every December, it's a race to finish both her birthday and Christmas presents! I managed to get it all ready in time so congrats to me! Today I wanted to show you the present she actually sort of knew she was getting. A few... [Lire la suite]

Sewing kit/Nécessaire à couture

I always watch Anne's knitting/sewing podcasts, and in one of them, she had the idea of creating a thread in her Ravelry group to help people find NSPs (Non Secret Pals). The concept is quite simple (and not new, I know!!): you find someome with roughly the same interests as you and you send each other gifts. Sort of like a swap, but you do it regularly.I really wanted to try that, so I went to the thread and found myself a great NSP!!!! Our first swap was to take place at the end of July. We had decided on a small parcel with... [Lire la suite]

Giant baby towel / Sortie de bain géante

No, it's not the baby but the towel that's giant!Even though he's no giant, my little boy is now 8 months and a half and has outgrown all his towels, so I had to do something. Fortunately, I had foreseen this problem when the said baby boy wasn't even born! I had ordered the green fabric and lovely green elephants bias and even cut the pieces I needed when I was 7 months pregnant. But then I didn't have time to finish it. Nevermind, as everything was ready, it took me just a couple of hours to make the towel the other day, and now,... [Lire la suite]

Book pillows / Coussins livres

Here are the other gifts I've made for my family. Those were actually birthday presents, as my sister and her husband's birthdays are in November and December. A while ago, I asked them to tell me the title of their favorite book of all times. My sister chose The Eight (Le Huit in French) by Katherine Neville, and my brother in law… Well, let me tell you a bit about him, I think he's the kind of person who, being offered three wishes by the genie of the lamp, would keep the last one to wish for a million more wishes! Because he didn't... [Lire la suite]

Audrey's hat / Le chapeau d'Audrey

My sister loooves hats. And I love buying her hats ! There's this little hat maker in a town nearby who makes very original ones and I buy one there every year. But this time I wanted to try something new, so I bought a couple of books about hat making, made my sister choose several hats she liked among those, and set myself to make her one. I wanted to give it to her on Saint Audrey's day, on June 23rd (we give each other presents on our saint's day) but that didn't happen due to a little something that took all of my time (I think...
